Trucker skillfully avoids low bridge with quick thinking

A trucker in Nashville successfully avoided an accident with an oversized load on Friday morning, January 3rd. The driver managed to reverse his vehicle to avoid hitting a low railroad bridge.

What happened: The incident occurred around 7:25 a.m. on Interstate 40 West. The truck, hauling a large dump truck, stopped before reaching the bridge between Elm Hill Pike and Arlington Avenue.

  • Realizing the load wouldn't clear the bridge, the driver maneuvered the semi into reverse.
  • The truck stopped in the left lane before Tennessee Department of Transportation officials arrived to assist with traffic.

The response: Traffic was temporarily halted on a portion of I-40 West to let the truck reverse onto the I-24 East on-ramp.

According to WSMV, no damage occurred to the bridge and authorities quickly reopened the interstate.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the driver and efficient traffic management, all lanes were reopened with no injuries reported.
