Cocaine stashed in soft drink load uncovered at border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a large cocaine shipment hidden in a truck hauling soft drinks.

The details: On January 31, officers at the Roma International Bridge cargo facility in Texas found over 100 pounds of cocaine in a semi coming from Mexico.

  • The cocaine was hidden amongst soft drinks and weighed 120.15 pounds in total.
  • The estimated street value of this bust is around $1.6 million.

What happened: The truck was stopped and inspected with the help of K9 units and special equipment, leading to the discovery.

Authorities have handed over the truck, the drug load, and the driver to the Roma Police Department for further investigation.

Quote: "Our CBP officers continue to remain vigilant," said Andres Guerra, Port Director at Roma Port of Entry.

The driver now faces charges as the Roma Police continue their investigation into this smuggling attempt.
