As of February 4, 2025, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has decided to restrict commercial vehicle travel on many interstates ahead of a big winter storm.
The restrictions: Affected areas include I-283, I-376, I-70, and several other major routes. These restrictions will come into effect as a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain threatens to cause ice buildup.
- I-283 between PA Turnpike and I-83 will have restrictions from 7:00 p.m.
- I-81, I-83, and I-99 routes are also subject to the ban.
- Tier 2 restrictions apply to certain stretches of I-76 and I-476 from late Wednesday.
What's next: The travel ban will continue until further notice. Truckers are encouraged to check for updates on places like 511PA.
