Winter storm prompts truck restrictions on Pennsylvania highways

As of February 4, 2025, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has decided to restrict commercial vehicle travel on many interstates ahead of a big winter storm.

The restrictions: Affected areas include I-283, I-376, I-70, and several other major routes. These restrictions will come into effect as a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain threatens to cause ice buildup.

  • I-283 between PA Turnpike and I-83 will have restrictions from 7:00 p.m.
  • I-81, I-83, and I-99 routes are also subject to the ban.
  • Tier 2 restrictions apply to certain stretches of I-76 and I-476 from late Wednesday.

What's next: The travel ban will continue until further notice. Truckers are encouraged to check for updates on places like 511PA.
