Police kick off Operation Safe Driver Week targeting risky driving

Law enforcement has kicked off Operation Safe Driver Week across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. This year’s enforcement blitz runs from July 13–19, 2025.

What’s happening: Police are increasing traffic stops and pulling over both commercial trucks and passenger vehicles for unsafe driving.

  • The main focus in 2025 is on reckless, careless, or dangerous driving—like ignoring traffic laws or taking risks behind the wheel.
  • Drivers who get stopped may receive either a warning or a citation, depending on the violation.

By the numbers: During last year’s campaign, over 11,000 vehicles were pulled over in the U.S. and Canada. Officers wrote 2,712 tickets and handed out 3,228 warnings for various unsafe driving habits.

All the data from this year’s operation will be tracked by law enforcement and shared with the public in the fall.
