Semi-truck driver charged with DUI after fatal Texas crash

A semi-truck driver was arrested early Thursday for a fatal crash in Fort Worth, Texas.

What happened: Around 1:30 a.m., traffic on West Loop 820 at White Settlement Road was stopped due to construction. The semi, driven by 24-year-old Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz, failed to stop and slammed into a car, causing a deadly collision.

  • The female driver of the struck vehicle did not survive.
  • A male passenger, 41, suffered serious injuries.
  • A third vehicle was also hit, but its occupants were unharmed.

The charges: Fort Worth police determined Cruz was intoxicated, according to Fox 4 News. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing, but all lanes of West Loop 820 South Freeway were closed for several hours.

Thankfully, no additional injuries were reported from the incident.
