Trucker charged with intoxication manslaughter after fatal crash

A truck driver was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter following a construction zone crash in Fort Worth, Texas, early Thursday morning.

The details: The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on West Loop 820 at White Settlement Road when semitruck driver Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz, 24, failed to stop and hit a car.

  • The woman driving the car was killed instantly.
  • Her passenger, a 41-year-old man, was seriously injured.
  • A third car was also involved but the occupants were not hurt, according to Fox 4 News.

The arrest: Field sobriety tests showed Velasquez Cruz was intoxicated. Blood tests confirmed this, and he was charged with intoxication manslaughter. Police are continuing their investigation.
