Intoxicated truck driver causes deadly crash in Fort Worth

Early Thursday morning, an 18-wheeler crash in Fort Worth claimed the life of a woman and severely injured a man.

What happened: The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. on West Loop 820 at White Settlement Road, where construction had compressed traffic to one lane.

  • The semi-truck, driven by 24-year-old Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz, failed to stop and hit a car in front, leading to a chain reaction.
  • The woman driving the hit car was killed, and her 41-year-old male passenger was seriously injured, reported Fox 4 News.
  • A third car was involved but the occupants were unharmed.

Charges: Velasquez Cruz was found to be intoxicated after field sobriety tests, leading to charges of intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to understand why Cruz was driving under the influence.
