Semi-truck crash with sheriff deputy results in fatality

A tragic accident occurred on September 19th in Thonotosassa, Florida, involving a semi-truck and a sheriff's deputy driving a Ford F-150.

The details: The crash happened on U.S. Highway 301, south of McIntosh Road, around 7:45 a.m. Deputy Darell Brown, 40, was heading home after his shift at the Orient Road Jail when his truck drifted into oncoming traffic.

  • The semi-truck driver tried to avoid the collision but couldn't.
  • The impact pushed Brown's truck about 100 yards down the road and caused the semi to jackknife. Brown died instantly.
  • The truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Sheriff Chad Chronister, “The trucker did everything he could” to avoid the crash. "Our hearts break for the family, friends, and loved ones of Deputy Brown as they navigate this incomprehensible loss," he added.

The roadway was closed for hours but has since reopened, reported WTSP News.
