The Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP), alongside other local law enforcement, executed aerial traffic enforcement on April 14 and April 16. This effort aimed to crack down on unsafe driving on the US 12/18 Beltline in Dane County.
What happened: During the operation, 67 traffic stops were made by patrolling officers.
- Among the violations were four cases of driving over 100 mph, involving two reckless motorcycle riders.
- There were nine violations involving use of special lanes, and two instances of operating while intoxicated.
- A hazardous material tanker was caught speeding at 15 mph over the limit.
- The average speed recorded during stops was 83 mph.
The patrol's ongoing mission is to deter such dangerous behaviors, ensuring the roads remain safe for everyone.
What they're saying: "The results of this recent enforcement effort make one thing clear – people need to slow down and drive safely," WSP Superintendent Tim Carnahan stated, emphasizing the risks posed by high-speed driving.
What's next: The WSP plans to continue these enforcement efforts throughout the year to maintain safety, reported Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Thankfully, no accidents were reported during this enforcement operation.
