Early Monday, June 30, a windmill turbine blade being hauled on Interstate 70 in Washington County, Maryland, came loose while the load was in transit.
What happened: Around 5 a.m., the huge blade fell from the trailer and crossed the center median, blocking eastbound lanes of I-70. The tractor trailer came to rest blocking the westbound lanes.
- One person was injured and taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
- It has not been shared what caused the blade to break free, or exactly how the person was hurt.
- Crew shut down three eastbound lanes and four westbound lanes as they worked to clear the scene.
The blade was finally removed from the median a little after 8 a.m., reported PHL17.
No further information has been provided about why the load came loose or who was involved. All closed lanes have since reopened.
