Volvo teams up to help truckers keep pets safe

Volvo Trucks North America is working with the Center for Pet Safety to help truck drivers keep their pets safe and comfortable out on the road.

Why it matters: Lots of truckers take their dogs or other pets with them. Over 60% of drivers have pets, and nearly 40% bring their animals along for the ride.

  • The new partnership is taking a close look at the all-new Volvo VNL, focusing on features that help both drivers and animals, like air cooling inside the cab.
  • Truckers can adjust the inside temperature with Volvo’s connected app, so pets stay cool or warm even if drivers have to step away.
  • An online guide with tips for traveling safely with pets is coming in early 2026, covering things like in-cab setup, restraint systems, and safe rest stops.

What they're saying: “For many long-haul drivers, their dog is their constant companion through every mile,” said Maddie Sullivan, product marketing manager for Volvo Trucks North America. She said the idea is to support driver comfort and safety — for people and pets alike.

Lindsey Wolko, who leads the Center for Pet Safety, said the group is “excited to collaborate with Volvo Trucks North America to spotlight the unique needs of commercial drivers traveling with their pets.”

The partnership will include hands-on reviews at the Volvo Customer Center in Virginia and a new digital resource for drivers, according to Volvo Group.
