An official from Hope Trans, a Texas-based trucking company, has been indicted for felony forgery tied to a deadly crash on I-20 in Kaufman County that took place in late June.
The crash: Investigators say the driver, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel and ran into slowed traffic, causing a pileup that killed five people.
- Four members of the McKellar family died when their truck was struck. The only survivor, 20-year-old Evan McKellar, was recently released from the hospital.
- Another victim, Nicole Gregory, also died in the crash. Her loved ones are honoring her memory this weekend.
The indictments: Gonzalez-Companioni faces five counts of manslaughter and aggravated assault. He is currently in jail with a $2.5 million bond and is due in court August 11 for a bond reduction hearing.
The company official, whose name has not been released, is accused of falsifying the semi’s registration, reported FOX 4 News.
- Authorities say they are still waiting for this official to turn himself in.
Prosecutors continue to collect evidence, and the investigation into Hope Trans and the fatal crash is ongoing.
