Truckers urged to join fight against human trafficking

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is gearing up for its annual Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI), set to occur across North America in early 2025.

When and Where: In the U.S., the initiative is scheduled for January 13-17, 2025. Canada will follow from February 17-21, 2025, and Mexico will take part March 17-21, 2025.

Purpose: The HTAI aims to educate commercial drivers, motor carriers, and the public on recognizing and combating human trafficking. CVSA emphasizes the importance of awareness for everyone in the industry.

  • The initiative includes outreach to educate participants on the signs of trafficking and how to report suspicions safely.
  • CVSA is providing resources like wallet cards, posters, and window decals to aid in spreading awareness.

Why it matters: Human trafficking is a significant issue worldwide, exploiting people for labor or sex.

This initiative is crucial in making everyone aware of the signs of trafficking and equipping them with knowledge on how to act if they suspect it's happening, according to a CVSA news release.

What's next: After the events, jurisdictions will report their findings to the CVSA, and results will be shared in summer 2025.
