Trucker not charged in North Charleston fatal incident

A trucker won't face charges in a fatal accident that happened on March 17 in North Charleston, SC. The incident involved a disabled trucker who fell from his vehicle and was struck by another semi.

Details: William Bennett, 56, had pulled over on I-526, exiting the vehicle near the Don Holt Bridge. He was hit by the rear tires of a passing Freightliner, which didn't stop. Bennett tragically died at the scene.

  • The crash was initially called a hit-and-run, but authorities later found the truck involved and its driver.

Investigation outcome: North Charleston Police concluded that the Freightliner didn't cause the accident, and the driver did not realize the collision occurred. Consequently, no charges will be pressed.
