Trucker found guilty in fatal DUI crash with tow driver

A truck driver was found guilty of causing the death of a tow truck driver while driving under the influence. The incident occurred in Polk County, Iowa in November 2023.

What happened: Dmytro Prysich, 55, struck 45-year-old Joshua Villa near the 86th Street exit on Interstate 80 in Urbandale as Villa was loading a car onto his tow truck.

  • Prysich left the scene but was later stopped by police, claiming he thought he hit a bird.
  • His blood alcohol level was found to be .196, well above the legal limit.

The verdict: On October 14, 2024, Prysich was convicted of vehicular homicide while under the influence, although acquitted of leaving the scene of an accident causing death, reported WHO13 News.

What's next: Prysich faces up to 25 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on December 10, 2024.
