Trucker caught in Fort Stewart Army base shooting lockdown

A truck driver delivering to Fort Stewart Army base in Georgia found himself caught in the middle of a shooting on Wednesday morning, August 6th.

What happened: A gunman opened fire on the base, injuring five soldiers before other military members managed to stop the attack. The base was quickly locked down for safety.

  • Trucker Ron Peavey was just trying to finish his job and leave for Atlanta when he was stopped at the gate with no details about what was happening.
  • "I thought we were at war," Peavey told News Nation Now. He described the base as "a ghost town" and said guards at the gate seemed shaken and nervous.
  • Peavey said he was yelled at to get back in his truck and turn around, which left him confused and worried during the nearly half-hour lockdown.

All five soldiers survived the shooting, reported NewsNation.
