Truck hauling papayas stopped at border reveals $23 million meth bust

On July 6, 2025, border officers at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas made a massive bust after stopping a truck loaded with fresh papayas coming from Mexico.

What happened: Officers decided to do extra checks on the truck, bringing in a K9 team and special scanning gear.

  • Inside the trailer, they found 384 packages stuffed with what turned out to be meth.
  • The total weight: just over 2,570 pounds.
  • Street value is estimated at $23.6 million, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Homeland Security is now handling the investigation. Both the drugs and the truck were taken by the Feds.

This seizure highlights just how much pressure border officers face dealing with drug smuggling at busy commercial crossings.
