Truck driver sought after semi hits multiple overpasses in Canada

Canadian police are searching for a truck driver after a semi struck four overpasses on Highway 403 in Brantford, Ontario, on Thursday morning.

What happened: At 10:39 a.m. on May 1, a red tractor-trailer carrying an excavator hit overpasses on Tollgate Road, Paris Road, Ewing Drive, and King George Road.

  • The driver didn't stop after hitting the overpasses.
  • Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for witnesses or dash cam footage from motorists in the area to assist in the investigation.

Broader context: This incident adds to a growing concern in Canada over vehicle height compliance. Just last year, British Columbia introduced harsher penalties for such strikes.

  • Penalties can reach up to $100,000 in fines and 18 months in prison, according to an official press release.

Thankfully, despite the damage, no injuries were reported from the overpass collisions.
