Truck driver injured in shooting spree through California

A Las Vegas man, Antonio Chaidez, 35, was arrested after a shooting spree early Tuesday in Baker, California. The incident injured three people, including a truck driver.

The timeline: The shooting started at 2:36 a.m. when a man was shot while sleeping in his car in San Bernardino County. Minutes later, a second shooting unfolded at a Chevron gas station on Baker Boulevard.

  • Chaidez fired multiple rounds inside the gas station, hitting a store clerk.
  • He then shot into two parked semi-trucks, injuring one of the drivers, before fleeing the scene.

The California Highway Patrol tracked Chaidez's vehicle, a black truck, on the I-15 Freeway and initiated a pursuit. Deputies later stopped and arrested him without incident off Harvard Road, according to Barstow Sheriff's Department.

Why it matters: The shootings stretched across two states, starting in Nevada before reaching California, and are being investigated as attempted murders.
