A truck driver is advocating for improved traffic signals at a hazardous intersection in Beaumont, Texas, after a crash with two teenage sisters. The accident happened on Tuesday, April 15th, at Highway 365 and LaBelle Road.
The incident: The collision occurred when 16-year-old Callie Pirtle's pickup truck allegedly pulled out in front of Phillip Broussard's tanker truck. Unable to stop in time, Broussard hit the pickup, injuring Callie and her 13-year-old sister, Jori.
Aftermath: Both girls were hospitalized, with Callie in Beaumont and Jori in Houston. Broussard received minor injuries but was more worried about the teens. "They were both knocked out. Luckily, there were some ladies that seen the accident if it wasn’t for them, them girls probably wouldn’t be still here," Broussard said.
Community response: Broussard has joined local efforts to push for a traffic light or a four-way stop at the intersection. A petition supporting these changes has already gained hundreds of signatures, reported 12 News. The Texas Department of Transportation will conduct a study before any changes are made.
Broussard's message: "There’s no fault on this. You know, accidents happen all the time," he assured the Pirtle family.
Phillip Broussard, with a decade of driving experience, continues to call for these safety improvements, highlighting the community's commitment to preventing future accidents.
