Troopers ride along in trucks to spot unsafe driving

Starting next week, Wisconsin State Patrol will roll out a "Trooper in a Truck" campaign across the state.

How it works: Troopers will ride along with semi and bus drivers, using their higher-up view to catch drivers who are distracted, going too fast, or not wearing seatbelts.

  • If a trooper in a truck spots a violation, a nearby marked cruiser will pull the driver over and handle the stop.
  • This effort is done with the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association.

Timing: The initiative lines up with Operation Safe Driver Week, running July 13–19, 2025, an annual safety push happening all over North America.

Truckers and bus drivers are playing a key role by giving troopers that better vantage point to spot dangerous driving on Wisconsin highways.
