Troopers issue over 2,000 violations during truck inspection blitz

Illinois State Police finished a three-day commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement effort last week along I-70, I-270, and at nearby weigh stations, checking trucks in St. Clair, Madison, Bond, Fayette, Effingham, Cumberland, and Clark counties.

The numbers: Troopers reported a total of 2,034 violations between July 29 and July 31, 2025.

  • 175 drivers were issued out-of-service violations.
  • 151 trucks were placed out of service for equipment problems.
  • 39 drivers got tickets for not moving over, and five were cited for distracted driving.
  • One person was also arrested on a warrant.

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program also joined the effort alongside state police.

No major crashes or injuries were reported during this operation.
