Tragic multi-semi crash on Highway 77 halts traffic

A tragic accident took place early on Tuesday morning, November 19, involving five semis and a box truck on US Highway 77 in Refugio County, Texas.

The details: At 2:24 a.m., a tractor trailer collided with three car haulers and veered off the highway, ending up on the railroad tracks. This chain reaction halted all southbound traffic.

  • Michael Ngo, the 31-year-old driver of a 2018 Nissan box truck, failed to stop in time and crashed into the back of a halted tractor trailer driven by Alberto Mata, aged 38.

Ngo was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Roberta Fagan. No other injuries were reported, according to South Texas News.

What happened next: Authorities closed the highway for investigation and cleanup efforts, reopening it by 7 a.m. on November 20.

Thankfully, no additional injuries occurred during this unfortunate event.
