A tragic crash on Sandstone Mountain in West Virginia claimed the lives of two truck drivers early the morning of April 23.
What happened: The accident took place on eastbound I-64 at mile marker 136.3. The truck went through a guardrail and down a steep embankment, landing at the bottom of the hillside.
- Truck driver Macdiel R. Labrada, 33, and co-driver, Daikel C. Perdomo, 41, were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
- The vehicle was carrying a load of watermelons at the time of the crash.
Possible causes: Authorities suspect speed and brake failure may have led to the tragic incident due to the area's steep grade.
On-site action: Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, along with firefighters and ambulance crews, responded quickly, though both drivers were found with no signs of life upon their arrival.
Sheriff Priddy emphasized the need for careful driving, especially around Sandstone Mountain where the terrain is challenging. This incident followed another fatal truck crash in the area less than a year ago.
