Tragic crash on I-80 after SUV collides with big rig

A tragic crash occurred on November 9 when a motorist in a Ford Explorer hit a parked big rig on the side of Indiana's I-80, near the Grant Street exit.

The details: The Volvo semi, pulling double FedEx trailers, was unoccupied at the time. Its driver was inspecting an air leak when the SUV veered off the road, striking the rear trailer.

  • The force of the collision pushed the trailer forward, and the SUV continued into a ditch.
  • The SUV driver was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Assistance: Indiana State Police, Gary Fire/EMS, WAFFCO Towing, and other local services responded quickly to the site, reported Indiana State Police.

Next steps: The Lake County Coroner’s Office is set to reveal the victim’s identity once relatives have been informed.

Thankfully, no one else was injured in the incident.
