Tragic 17-vehicle crash on I-94 claims trucker's life

A heartbreaking incident took place on December 2 near Hartford, Michigan, on I-94. A 71-year-old truck driver from Burbank, Illinois, involved in a massive 17-vehicle pileup, has died from injuries sustained in the crash, confirmed by the Michigan State Police.

The event: The crash involved 14 passenger vehicles and three semi trucks, resulting in a chaotic scene with 15 additional vehicles sliding off the road.

  • The crash occurred near mile marker 46 on westbound I-94 amid heavy snowfall, creating whiteout conditions.
  • It is suspected that drivers traveling too quickly for the conditions contributed to the accident.

Current status: As of December 3, both directions of I-94 at the crash site have been reopened after crews diligently cleared the wreckage.
