Tractor-trailer overturn leads to tragic cattle loss in Virginia

A tractor-trailer driver has been charged following a crash that killed 45 cattle early morning on October 6 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.

The crash: It unfolded around 4:20 a.m. when Shawn E. Alford, 59, left northbound I-81, striking a guardrail before his vehicle overturned.

  • Alford, who was unharmed, was charged with reckless driving.
  • The collision tragically resulted in the deaths of 32 cows, with 10 more subsequently euthanized due to their injuries.
