Tow company owner charged after bulldozer crash kills two in Utah

A Utah tow company owner is facing serious charges after a tragedy in Ogden Canyon on July 6, 2024. A bulldozer he was hauling fell off, causing a crash that killed two people.

The details: Michael John Love, the owner of Love's Towing, was driving with a 32,000-pound bulldozer. The equipment slid off the trailer and crushed a westbound vehicle, killing Richard Hendrickson, 57, and his daughter Sally.

  • The crash occurred while Love was navigating a right-hand curve on SR-39.
  • Charging documents claim Love didn't properly secure the bulldozer, using a single chain and a winch cable, far from sufficient for its weight.
  • The bulldozer exceeded the tow truck's weight limit by 4,300 pounds.

The charges: Love faces two counts of manslaughter and other charges, including aggravated assault and obstructing justice. Investigators say he falsely claimed the crash was caused by the victim's vehicle hitting his truck.

What authorities found: Surveillance footage contradicted Love’s account of the securement and indicated he tried to alter the crash scene by moving chains afterward, reported Fox13Now.

Love remains in custody without bail, tied to other pending felony cases. His actions have left a somber impact on the trucking community. Fortunately, no other drivers were involved in the crash.
