Tow company hit with $7.1 million verdict over food truck

A Kansas City woman just scored $7.1 million in court after her “Crazy Tacos” food truck was towed and held by a local tow company for nearly two years.

The backstory: It all started in 2022, when her food truck was towed from an old, unmarked lot. In Missouri, the property owner has to be present to authorize a tow, but that didn’t happen here.

  • The tow company, Haney’s Trucking and Tow, kept her food truck for 699 days.
  • They demanded thousands to get it back, and even tried to claim ownership themselves.
  • She refused to pay and took her fight to court, pushing back with help from lawyers and a complaint to the state Attorney General.

The verdict: The jury hit Haney’s with $6.9 million in punitive damages and another $200,000 in compensatory damage.

In the end, she got her truck returned, but it was all torn up inside and even the engine needed major repairs—reported FOX4 KC.

Haney’s Trucking and Tow now looks shut down, with neighbors saying the building is up for sale and nobody seems to be working there.
