Tour bus overturns on I-90 in New York, causing multiple deaths

Several people lost their lives and many others were hurt when a tour bus overturned on I-90 in Genesee County, New York. The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, between exits 48A and 49 near the town of Pembroke.

What happened: Police said the bus, carrying 52 people, lost control, crossed the median, and then tipped over on the southern shoulder.

  • The bus was heading from Niagara Falls back to New York City.
  • Troopers confirmed "several" deaths, including at least one child.
  • Over 50 people on board were reported injured.

Witnesses told police they watched the bus lose control and roll over near the highway median.

Aftermath: The crash caused the closure of I-90 in both directions between exits 48A (Pembroke) and 49 (Depew), as emergency crews responded to the scene, according to New York State Police.

The incident remains under investigation, and police have not released more details about how or why the bus lost control.
