Timelapse shows Texas floodwaters quickly swallowing rural roadway

A timelapse video recorded July 4th in Kingsland, Texas, shows just how quickly flood waters can swallow up a road. The camera caught the Llano River turning from low and peaceful to surging over the street in only about 30 minutes.

In the video:

  • The sky darkens as the water rises.
  • At first, the river barely covers the edge of the road.
  • Soon, the water spreads fast, taking over the entire roadway.

Why it matters: This flooding happened over the busy Fourth of July weekend. Kingsland is under 100 miles from Camp Mystic, which also got hit hard by the floods.

Flash floods can move in fast in places like Texas. The video shows how quickly a situation can change, leaving little time to escape.
