Texas fire officials arrested for stealing from semi trucks

Three officials from the Liberty County Fire Marshal's Office in Texas were arrested on September 23, 2024, for allegedly stealing items from crashed semi trucks.

The details: William “Bill” Hergemueller, Erskine "Nat" Holcomb, and Jesse McGraw are accused of siphoning fuel and taking various goods from wrecked trailers, including cheese, duck meat, and croissants.

  • The men reportedly lacked the proper licenses to conduct fire marshal duties and inspections.
  • On December 19, 2022, Hergemueller and Holcomb allegedly stole fuel and food from a semi that overturned on US 59.
  • They also seized items from another crash scene in 2023 involving a fatality and a box truck.

Hergemueller is charged with multiple counts including official oppression and tampering with a government record. Holcomb and McGraw face charges of tampering with a government record and theft of property, according to ABC13.

All three were released from jail the day they were arrested.
