The journey: Kicked off on October 26 in Wrangell, Alaska, with the tree harvested from the Tongass National Forest.
- The tree traveled by barge to Seattle, Washington.
- From Seattle, Lynden Transport drivers Fred Austin and John Schank took it all the way to D.C., stopping at various community events along the route.
The drivers: Austin and Schank have been with Lynden since 1975, boasting a combined 10 million safe miles.
- Fred Austin is a veteran trucker selected for this honor.
- John Schank, participating for the second time, first hauled the tree in 2015.
A specially-wrapped Kenworth T680 handled the unique cargo, and got a Level I inspection to ensure safety for the long haul.
Thanks to the dedication of these drivers and their impressive experience on the road, the Capitol Christmas Tree arrived safely in Washington, D.C.
