SUV driver's DUI causes truck crash on California interstate

A serious crash involving a semi-truck and an SUV unfolded on the evening of May 6, 2025, on Interstate 5 in Redding, California. The driver of the SUV, 68-year-old Sheila Acker, was arrested for driving under the influence.

The crash: Acker failed to manage a curve, leading her SUV to break through barriers and collide with the semi-truck driven by Miles Heagy. The impact caused Heagy's truck to overturn.

  • Heagy sustained moderate injuries and is expected to recover in about a month.
  • His dog, Rowdy, was also injured, suffering broken ribs and head trauma.

Response time: Emergency crews quickly arrived to extract Acker from her vehicle, who had minor injuries and was taken into custody once cleared by medical staff.

  • The crash site was cleared after several hours of efforts to remove the vehicles and repair damage.

Acker is now facing charges of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, according to a local news report.

Thankfully, Heagy, his fiancée, and Rowdy are recovering at their home in Tri-Cities, Washington.
