Two men were arrested in early August after being linked to a deadly crash that happened on July 17 on I-35 near San Antonio, Texas.
The incident: Police say a stolen Camaro slammed into a small bus hauling a trailer, causing a crash that left five dead and at least 13 injured. The drivers in the Camaro attempted to weave between a bus and an 18-wheeler at high speed.
- After the wreck, four men got out of the Camaro and ran off—one had an AK-style rifle.
- Surveillance video later showed Eric Perez, 21, and Matthew Espinosa, 18, in the stolen car two days before the crash, and breaking into another vehicle.
Arrests and charges: Perez and Espinosa were both caught on August 2 and charged with burglary of vehicles. Perez faces an extra charge for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Espinosa was also charged with giving a false name to officers.
Perez posted a $12,500 bond, and Espinosa posted a $5,000 bond. Police have not released info on the other two people who ran from the Camaro after the crash, reported KSAT.
Eight people were hurt with life-threatening injuries, and the crash involved people of all ages—children to older adults.
