State police crack down on unsafe trucking practices

Indiana State Police (ISP) carried out a major commercial vehicle enforcement blitz on U.S. 30 on April 11, revealing a slew of violations.

Action taken: During the operation, troopers targeted several unsafe driving behaviors among truckers.

  • Focus areas included following too closely, not obeying traffic signals, and speeding.
  • Officials noted 47 speeding cases (15 tickets, 32 warnings) and 7 seatbelt violations.
  • A total of 126 truck violations were documented in the checks conducted.

The details: The proactive measure spanned from the Illinois to Ohio state line and also included criminal charges for two individuals.

  • 29 level 3, 10 level 2, and 3 level 1 truck inspections were performed.

Sgt. Dale Turner of the ISP commented, "Focused efforts like this raise both awareness and voluntarily compliance with those law and regulations" according to an ISP press release.

Bottom line: These checks underscore the ongoing focus on road safety and regulation compliance for truckers.
