Springtime snowstorm disrupts truck routes with chain restrictions

Mother Nature's April Fools' joke brought significant snowfall to parts of the west, wreaking havoc on the roads.

What happened: On March 31st, Truckee, California faced a snowstorm causing numerous semi truck spinouts and temporary road closures. The storm continued into April 1st.

  • Interstate 80 had chain restrictions and traffic was held in areas due to multiple spinouts.
  • Reno, Nevada was under a winter storm warning until late Monday, and Telluride, Colorado received about 3 inches of snow.

Looking ahead: The storm is moving eastward, expected to reach the Great Lakes by April 3rd.

For truckers: Be cautious if you're driving through this area; road conditions can be unpredictable in this weather.

This snowstorm is part of a larger weather system causing severe weather in other regions, reported by NOAA.

Thankfully, despite the challenging conditions, no injuries have been reported from these spinouts.
