Snow squall leads to tragic multi-vehicle crash on I-91

A tragic accident occurred on March 8 on I-91 in Rockingham, Vermont, involving over 10 vehicles amid a snow squall. The crash resulted in the deaths of a Connecticut man, Taylor Binnington, 39, and his infant son, Parry Lake.

Details of the incident: Around 7:20 p.m., Taylor, driving a 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5, rear-ended a stationary 2024 Peterbilt fuel tanker. The tanker had stopped due to deteriorated road conditions and reduced visibility from the snow squall, leading to multiple minor accidents and slide-offs on the highway.

  • Binnington was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
  • His infant son was taken to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
  • Evelyn Lake, Taylor's wife, and their three-year-old son were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Vermont State Police noted that the poor road conditions significantly contributed to the incident, as the Hyundai could not stop in time, rear-ending the tanker. The surroundings remained dangerous due to ice and low visibility, reported Vermont State Police on their blog.

The aftermath: Emergency responders and local authorities worked to address the situation, ensuring all vehicles involved were safely removed from the scene.

No other serious injuries were reported as a result of this tragic multi-vehicle pileup.
