Michigan State Police pulled over a truck on July 15 after it skipped a northbound I-75 weigh station in Frenchtown Township.
What happened: Around 9:15 p.m., troopers noticed a 2018 Kenworth pulling a flatbed trailer pass by the scales without stopping. Officers pulled the truck over and talked with the 26-year-old driver from Ontario, Canada.
- The driver said he picked up his load in Ohio and was heading back to Canada.
- Troopers got consent to search the rig and found four U-Haul boxes in a flatbed compartment.
- Inside the boxes, they discovered 70 vacuum-sealed packages that later tested positive for cocaine.
By the numbers: Police estimate the value of the seized cocaine to be about $1.8 million.
- The driver denied knowing about the cocaine.
- He was arrested and booked into Monroe County Jail for possessing and intending to deliver more than 1,000 grams of cocaine.
Assisting in the bust were the Monroe City Police K-9 unit and Monroe Area Narcotics Team and Investigative Services.
