Semi truck tire blowout leads to fiery I-81 crash

A semi truck experienced a tire blowout on April 19 at 3:49 p.m., causing a fiery crash on Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.

The details: The 2025 Peterbilt, driven by 42-year-old Giorgi Khutsishvili, veered into a guardrail, jackknifed, and ignited in flames.

  • Khutsishvili, from Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is in a local hospital.
  • The incident led to a two-hour shutdown of the northbound lanes as crews battled the blaze and cleared debris.
