A semi-truck driver was airlifted to a hospital following a severe accident after a tire blowout in a narrow construction zone on Interstate 84, Idaho. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 27, at 1:58 p.m.
What happened: Traveling west near milepost 170, the truck experienced a tire blowout, losing control and slamming into the center barrier. This sent the barrier flying into the eastbound lanes, causing a Chevy Tahoe and a Chevy Equinox to crash.
- The truck flipped and caught fire, but the driver managed to escape before being flown for medical attention.
- Individuals in the Tahoe were also hospitalized, while those in the Equinox were unharmed.
Impact: Fire crews needed 30 minutes to extinguish the flames. The crash closed the westbound lanes for 12 hours and the eastbound lanes for about five hours for cleanup and investigation.
What they're saying: Sgt. Benjamin Foster of the Idaho State Police warned travelers: "We have cones, you have limited lane space. There is not room for people to escape" reported KMVT/KSVT.
Aftermath: The road reopened after around 12 hours, and the incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
