A semi-truck hauling six large lithium-ion batteries overturned on Thursday in San Pedro, California, causing a major fire.
The details: The accident happened just before noon on North Seaside Avenue. The batteries exploded, setting off a fire.
Road closures: The 47 Freeway and Vincent Thomas Bridge are both closed. The bridge may remain shut for up to 48 hours.
- Traffic backups are reported in the area.
- The fire has closed several port terminals, disrupting operations.
Firefighters took a defensive stance, letting the batteries burn out due to water runoff concerns, explained LAFD Capt. Adam Van Gergen.

What to expect: According to ABC 7 News, the fire may take another day to extinguish.
