Pickup driver charged after dangerous attack on semi truck

A pickup driver is facing several charges after a dangerous road rage incident against a semi truck in Fremont County, Iowa late last month.

What happened: Around 4 p.m. on June 25, 2025, on 195th Avenue near Percival, a blue pickup reportedly started harassing a semi driver. The pickup driver was accused of brake checking, swerving at the truck, and even stopping in the road to confront the trucker before the dispute moved onto northbound I-29.

  • Authorities say the pickup driver, later identified as Cory Gene Behrens, 42, kicked the semi as it went around his truck.
  • On the interstate, he allegedly stopped again, got out, and threw a steel hitch ball through the semi's windshield while the truck was still moving at highway speed.
  • The semi driver's dash cam footage helped identify the pickup and the suspect.

The charges: Behrens was arrested on July 10 for Intimidation With a Dangerous Weapon, Going Armed With Intent, Criminal Mischief, and Assault With Intent to Inflict Serious Injury.

The incident did not result in injuries, and the investigation was handled by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
