Semi truck driver stops suspected drunk driver on New Year's Eve

Police in Eugene, Oregon, are praising a quick-thinking semi truck driver who helped stop a suspected intoxicated driver after a hit-and-run on New Year’s Eve.

The incident: Around 2 p.m. on December 31, a crash happened on W. 6th Avenue. A Mazda, driven by Porsha Naree Mueller, collided with the front of a semi truck while merging.

  • The semi swerved right, affecting a Ford Explorer in the neighboring lane. The Explorer sped ahead, only to be rear-ended by Mueller.
  • Instead of stopping, Mueller tried to flee, but the trucker followed her, skillfully guiding her Mazda into a guardrail to stop her escape.

The arrest: Mueller was taken into custody by the Eugene Police Department. She faces several charges, including DUII and reckless driving.

Efforts like these highlight the essential role truckers can play in ensuring road safety. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.
