A semi truck fell off the upper deck of I-70 in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado, on Tuesday morning.
What happened: Around 10 a.m., the truck rolled off westbound I-70, broke through a guardrail, and landed on the eastbound lower level, officials said.
The driver was trapped and hanging by the seatbelt before being hospitalized. Luckily, no injuries have been reported aside from the driver's, according to the Denver Post.
Impact: The crash led to the closure of I-70 in both directions, causing major traffic backups between Exit 121 (Grizzly Creek) and Exit 125 (Hanging Lake).
- Westbound lanes reopened around 1 p.m., but eastbound lanes remain closed for cleanup and assessment.
- The crash caused an oil spill on the eastbound lanes, complicating the cleanup efforts.
- A detour is in place directing eastbound traffic via Colorado 13, U.S. 40, and Colorado 9.
The truck's driver has been taken to the hospital, and cleanup crews are working to clear the debris and spilled oil. No timeline has been provided for the reopening of the eastbound lanes.
