A semi hauling metal pipes lost its load after hitting a light pole on I-88 in Downers Grove, Illinois, on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025.

What happened: Around 9:20 a.m., the semi truck crashed into a light pole near mile marker 129.5. The impact caused the pipes to come loose from the flatbed trailer.

  • The pipes spilled across the westbound lanes and struck several vehicles on the road.
  • No injuries were reported by police or emergency crews at the scene.
  • Some lanes of I-88 had to be closed while crews cleaned up the mess and got the highway safe to reopen.
