Semi hauling pipes loses load after hitting light pole on I-88

A semi hauling metal pipes lost its load after hitting a light pole on I-88 in Downers Grove, Illinois, on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025.

What happened: Around 9:20 a.m., the semi truck crashed into a light pole near mile marker 129.5. The impact caused the pipes to come loose from the flatbed trailer.

The pipes spilled across the westbound lanes and struck several vehicles on the road.
No injuries were reported by police or emergency crews at the scene.
Some lanes of I-88 had to be closed while crews cleaned up the mess and got the highway safe to reopen.

Details about what led to the crash have not been released. All lanes were reopened after the cleanup was finished, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
