Semi crash rips cab off truck on I-57 in Illinois

On Wednesday night, July 2, two semis crashed on northbound I-57 at mile marker 169 in Shelby County, Illinois, just north of Effingham.

The details: The collision was so severe that it ripped the cab off one of the trucks. A video taken by a trucker right after the crash shows him describing how it happened right in front of him. “He just climbed out, like it was nothing,” the man filming said about the driver whose cab was torn away.

  • One of the truckers was taken to the hospital for treatment.
  • State police cited one of the drivers for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, according to WCIA.

Both trucks suffered heavy damage, but no fatalities were reported.
