Sedan hits semi truck on I-5, causes major lane closure

A semi truck ended up swerving into oncoming lanes after a sedan tried to change lanes and struck the truck on southbound I-5, just north of Northgate at 85th, in Seattle. The accident happened on Wednesday, May 28.

What happened: The sedan crashed into the semi's side, knocking off an axle. This caused the truck to lose control, break through the barriers, and enter northbound traffic.

  • The Washington State Patrol called it a "miracle" that no one was killed.
  • No vehicles were hit on the northbound side, thanks to quick reaction and probably a bit of luck.
  • Two adults and two children in the sedan had minor injuries.
  • No other injuries were reported.

All lanes were open and traffic was moving again by around noon, according to KIRO 7 News.
