School bus swerves to avoid head-on collision with semi

A school bus had to swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision with a tractor trailer in Botetourt County, Virginia, on September 17.

The incident: A tractor trailer was reportedly driving on the wrong side of Catawba Road just before 4 p.m. The school bus driver swerved off the road to avoid a collision, overcorrected, and hit a utility pole, bringing down optic and phone lines.

  • An aide on the bus sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
  • The only student on the bus and the bus driver were unharmed.

Road closures: The road was closed for several hours while Virginia State Police investigated. The tractor trailer fled the scene and remains unidentified, according to Augusta Free Press.

Thankfully, no serious injuries occurred during the incident.
