Scam artists target truckers at Love’s and rest area

Police in Jefferson County, Tennessee are warning truckers about a scam that took place on June 11, 2025, at the Love’s Travel Center and the 419 Rest Area off I-40 near Dandridge.

What happened: Deputies say scammers targeted drivers by getting them to join in a betting game. The truckers were first approached by one person, then taken over to a group of others who were in on the scheme. The victims lost cash and jewelry to the scammers.

  • The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Lt. Robby McMahan at 865-471-6000 ext. 1105.

Officers did not say how many truckers were affected. The investigation is ongoing.
